Brittany Jo Polasek wed Army Specialist Nathan William Behrens on Dec. 19, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger which was officiated by Rev. Steve Sauser and Deacon Robert Jasek. A reception followed at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. Brittany is the daughter of Ronnie and Pam Polasek of Willow Springs; and the granddaughter of Barbara Polasek and the late Robert Polasek of Ellinger and the late Milroy and Jenny Kessler of Pearland. Nathan is the son of Natasha Arnold of Baytown and Randall Behrens of Sealy; and the grandson of Victor Jalowy and the late Debra Jalowy of Sealy and Robert Behrens and the late Joy Behrens of Round Rock. Brittany graduated from Fayetteville High School, Blinn College, and Texas A&M with a degree in Plant and environmental soil science. Nathan graduated from Sealy High School, Blinn College, and is currently active in the U.S. Army as a specialist and stationed at Ft. Drum near Watertown, New York where they will reside.

Like many organizations serving Fayette County, Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area was affected by the COVID 19 pandemic in early 2020. “When we first starting hearing about Corona we were like most people and assumed it was going to be like any other cold or flu virus, no one could foresee what was coming”, says Noelia Buck, MOWRCA Program Director, “and we had to make some big changes, fast.”

Second Chance Emporium recently donated $3,525 to Camp Invention at the La Grange Elementary School. Monies donated will be used to sponsor 15 one-week scholarships for those in need so they can attend Camp Invention. Feb. 16-19, 1971 Two Austin men were apprehended in Fayette County and charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer following a several-hour search that began with a theft near Smithville earlier in the evening.

With this super cold front blasting us down the single digits and with the 10-20 degrees of wind chill, Leopard Stadium is looking more like the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field made a trip a few thousand miles south. What is a Polar Vortex you might be asking, and it’s nothing more than a cold front, except instead of our usual fronts that come from Alaska and lower to mid Canada, this is coming straight from the top, the North Pole. Now these vortices are not a rare event as there are a few every year, it’s rare in the fact that it’s coming so far south, as the last major one happened in 2014. To calm any concerns, no this is not like The Day After Tomorrow, and the whole premise behind that is actually physically impossible, you aren’t gonna freeze instantly in place, even though you might feel like it’s happening. My recommendations on how to get through this; Make sure you stay warm, drip your external faucets so they don’t freeze your pipes, and stay off the road as any precipitation that falls will freeze and make the roads as slick as glass, just ride this one out at home and stay warm.
