Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Saturday, shortly after midnight, Deputy A.J. Gonzales conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic infraction. A Probable Cause search of the vehicle yielded narcotics and a handgun. Christopher Mayers of Missouri City was arrested and charged with Possession of a controlled substance-Felony 3, Unlawful Carry of a weapon-Class A Misdemeanor and Possession of Marijuana-Class B misdemeanor. Mayers was transported to the Dan R Beck Justice Center.

Seymour “Rif” Rifkind, President of the Pickleball Hall of Fame, is on an epic 3,000 bike ride across the U.S. to raise funds to furnish the new Pickleball Hall of Fame and Museum that is being built in Austin, and scheduled to open in October, 2021 at the Pickle Ranch. He started his 44-day ride in San Diego, CA on Feb. 28, and is scheduled to finish in St. Augustine, FL. on April 12. He should be arriving in La Grange in the afternoon of Wednesday, March 24. The only support team is his wife Holly, who is following him in their RV. So far, he has weathered a flat tire, cold temperatures, dust storms and high winds. His daily rides are around 75 miles, but last week, one leg of his trip was 120 miles in one day. Janet Rangel, Recreation Director for the City of La Grange, was joined by the Easter Bunny Saturday as she welcomed attendees to the Easter Egg hunt at White Rock Park. Internationally renowned pastel artist Rita Kirkman opens her exhibit Kindred Spirits at Arts for Rural Texas on March 27th. The artist’s reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and is open to the public. Kirkman’s exhibit is another example of the high caliber of work being made available to residents and visitors in the region. The artist’s work is defined by light, color and composition, and since 2003 has consistently won major awards in national and international competitions. She is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America and an Eminent Pastelist with the International Association of Pastel Societies. Kirkman’s paintings are part of public and private collections all over the world, including the U.S. Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, Africa and Australia. Arts for Rural Texas seeks to provide highly recognized artists and high quality artwork for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

The Colorado Co. Citizen • Eagle Lake Police Department has encountered its share of difficulties in the past three years.

At the Navidad Valley Community Connections Center, we want everyone to know that we are open. We are open on Mondays and Wednesdays right now from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. We have our Lunch & Learn series speakers every Monday and we play bingo every Wednesday. There is a delicious and nutritious meal served for lunch each of these days. Crafty Corner is open on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be at the NVCC Center now after April 1st. We do have a steady group coming in and they enjoy themselves immensely. We look around some times and start asking, “Where is everyone?”

What a difference a year makes. One year after the spring antique shows of northern Fayette County were cancelled at the start of the COVID pandemic, things are back to normal in the pastures of Warrenton and under the big tents in Round Top.

When Prause Meat Market closed last summer and the family sold the business and the building – it ended four generations of Prause meat and barbeque in downtown La Grange. Or so it seemed.
