A 21-year-old man from Dime Box died in a crash on State Highway 71 Tuesday morning, May 4. According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the wreck happened at 8:13 a.m.

The first election day tie in recent local history resolved itself this week. On Saturday, Kenneth Stojanik and Curtis Zwahr both received 27 votes for the final Ellinger city commissioner spot.

On Tuesday, April 13, Laura James, a member of the Flatonia 4-H Club and a junior at Flatonia High School, testified at a meeting of the Texas Senate Education Committee on behalf of Senate Bill 801. This bill originated from a letter writing campaign by James last year.

Dubina was started in 1856. And after some people passed away, they were buried next to what now is FM 1383 in Dubina. As Dubina started to grow, there was a need for a permanent cemetery. In 1866 Joseph Peter and Ignac Muzny donated land for the current cemetery. As Dubina continued to grow, a church was established in 1877. By the late 1880s the church grew to over 600 families.

County Commissioner Jason McBroom showed up with a chainsaw Saturday morning to remove a cedar that fell across Raymond Rd. and held back a number of motorists that were stuck between the tree and the train blocking an alternative route on Zilss Rd. “How impressive is it when you see one of our County Commissioners come out with a chain saw to help the neighbors move the tree.
