Fayetteville Picking Park Continues Saturday
What’s up on May 8 on the square? It’s pickin’ time—live, acoustic bluegrass jamming is here again. At Fayetteville Picking Park, play is always the second Saturday of every month. KC Barbecue
The Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus are serving up good eats for Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9. Call to order. A large butterflied chicken is $9, sausage links are $6 and a rack of pork ribs is $18. Catholic Daughters of America will be serving up sides. Unofficial Election Results
Counts are still being verified, however the unofficial results of our recent election: Mayor Elect for the City of Fayettevile is Mike Stroup. Cade Burks has won for City Council Place II and in Place IV, Emil Knodell.
Central Texas Food Truck
Central Texas Food Truck will be at St. John’s Hall parking lot this Friday, May 7 from 10-11 a.m. It’s drive-thru distribution and will follow all CDC guidelines.
ArtWalk a Success
The wet weather didn’t stop over 1500 attendees from shopping and enjoying all the fun and noteworthy talent at ArtWalk last weekend. From paintings and pottery to gumbo and games, a really great time was had by all. Thanks to Mrs. Garwood and the seniors at the school for helping Pre-K make necklaces to sell in the children’s booth.
Fayetteville High School Prom
The pandemic won’t stop seniors and other classmates from enjoying prom this year. All of Fayetteville High School (from freshman to seniors) are invited to celebrate a parentfunded prom on Saturday, May 15, from 6-11 p.m. at the SPJST Hall in Fayetteville. You’re welcome to bring a date. Parents are holding this for the kids, so please note this isn’t a schoolsponsored event. Any parents that would like to make a donation or volunteer to help, contact Lacey Hopkins at (979) 639-1213.
School Renovations
Significant progress has been made toward restoring the 100-year-old “red building” next to the school. The renovation, which began over a year ago, has included opening up the bottom floor to accommodate a library, saving as much of the original woodwork as possible and installing energyefficient windows that mimic the originals from 1911. “It’s exciting for the community that this historical building is being put back into use after sitting vacant for so many years,” stated Fayetteville ISD Board President Lisa Simpson. The school library will be relocated from its current location in a 30-yearold “temporary building” to this much more spacious, technologically up-to-date space. The building exterior will remain as historically correct as budget allows.
Everyone that graduated before the 1980s remembers having classes in the building. Since then, it has served as a storage facility until the renovation began.
