Workshop Set for Next Week About LG Downtown Revitalization Grant

La Grange Main Street and Tourism will hold a workshop meeting over the downtown revitalization grant on Tuesday, July 28, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the City Hall Council Chambers at 155 E. Colorado St.

The City is pursuing a $1 million grant through the Texas Department of Agriculture to pay for improvements in the downtown Courthouse square. The initial plan calls for sweeping changes to the parking area around the Square. The middle parking area would be converted to parallel parking in order to make way for fire lanes that meet current code requirements. There would also be lighting improvements and curbing installed to bettercontrol the flow of traffic. The initial plan would remove 37 parking spaces.

The City may need to obtain permission from the County for some of the proposed changes. County Attorney James Herbrich told the Record last week that he believes the County owns the property from the curbing along the courthouse lawn to the middle parking area.

Last Thursday at the Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting, Pct. 1 Commissioner Jason McBroom encouraged County leaders to review the plan.

“I just want everybody to know that the City of La-Grange is going after a revitalization grant,” McBroom said. “There’s a copy of it at Casino Hall, and there’s a place where you can make comments. Please go by and look at it. It’s going to severely change the functionality of this courthouse and county buildings.”

As McBroom said, the plan is available for review and comment at Casino Hall in La Grange.

An announcement for the meeting next Tuesday stated, “Please join us to review conceptual plans and provide input as we continue to refine our project application for the downtown revitalization grant.”
