Woman From Giddings Dies in Wreck on Highway 77

A woman from Giddings died in a head-on collision on US 77 just south of Giddings last Wednesday, Jan. 12.

The crash happened around 2:33 p.m. According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, 32-year-old Jazmin Salazar of Giddings was driving a Lexus passenger car south in the outside lane on Hwy. 77. The report said a witness observed the Lexus traveling at a high rate of speed.

The report said the Lexus crossed the centerline and struck a tractor trailer heading north in the inside lane. The Lexus went airborne in flames and broke into multiple pieces, the report said. Salazar was ejected and landed in the ditch on the southbound side. She was found deceased from her injuries.

The driver of the truck-tractor was not injured according to the report. The wreck shut down traffic on US 77 south of Giddings for nearly five hours.
