‘Now and Then’ by Sean Grennan
Join the Fayette County Community Theatre on Sept. 18 and Sept. 19 as they present “Now and Then” by Sean Grennan. Watch how a love story can change the past and the future in the famous Freyburg Hall outside of Schulenburg. Texas Heroes Day Event with Pat Lyons
A special event will be held at the Texas Heroes Museum on Saturday, Sept. 19 to celebrate Texas Heroes Day. Guest speaker will be Pat Lyons, a Vietnam veteran who was a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP, pronounced “lurp”). LRRPs were well armed patrols who gathered intelligence information deep in enemy territory. Pat will speak upstairs in the Sheriff’s bedroom at 1 p.m. and again at 3 p.m. This special event is open to the general public, and as always, the museum is free to visit. To attend special events, there is a fee of $5 per person or $4 for seniors, students, and veterans. Members of the Texas Heroes Museum attend special events such as this for free. If you want to attend this special program, RSVP by email to texasheroesmuseum@gmail.com with desired show time. RSVP early. Seating is limited. The 2026 Texas Heroes Day is special for the museum. This day marks the 10th anniversary of the day that Judge Ed Janecka officiated at the dedication of the Fayette County Old Jail as the Texas Heroes Museum. The museum is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays.
Cummins Creek Wildlife Management
The Cummins Creek Wildlife Management fall meeting and dinner will be held Saturday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. at (new location) Harmonie Hall, 302 FM 1296 in Shelby. Pork steak dinner will be served fro $10 per plate, as well as refreshments, a raffle and door prizes and a chance to win a 600 lb. ground feeder. Silent auction will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Please bring items to help support the organization. Everyone is invited.
Pietsch Benefit Dinner & Auction
Tara Pietsch is recovering from surgery due to a rare Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma and will be facing chemotherapy. A benefit dinner and auction will be held at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall on Saturday, Sept. 19 with doors opening at 4 p.m. Pulled pork dinner plates with sides and trimmings are $15 each. Walk up, drive-thru or dine in. Live and silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m. 50/50 raffle, cash bar and set ups. DJ Music provided by Lathan Stall. Tickets available at La Grange Chevron, NAPA La Grange, Joe’s Place-Fayetteville, Orsak’s-Fayetteville, and Moravia Store.
Moulton Church Picnic
St. Joseph’s Moulton Church Picnic will be held in the Social Center on Sunday, Sept. 20 with Mass at 10 a.m. at the church. a fried chicken and stew dinner is $15 per plate, dine in or drive thru. Meat to-go available until sold out. Enjoy train rides, fish pond, ring toss, cake walk and country store. Auction begins at 1 p.m. and there will be hamburgers, snow cones and popcorn. Ken Brothers plays from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Mark Halata and Texavia from 2-6 p.m. A grand prize drawing with a $5,000 gift certificate will be held.
Food Handlers Workshop
A two hour food handlers’ workshop will be held on Monday, Sept. 21, at the Fayette Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104 in La Grange. This course is accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER) state that all food employees must complete an accredited food handler training course within 30 days of employment. Food employees must also keep their food handler’s card updated. The cost of the class is $20. and participants need to pre-register at least 2 days in advance. Schulenburg Class of 1960
The Schulenburg Shorthorn Class of 1960, which holds their annual reunion on the first Thursday of October, will hold this year’s reunion on Thursday, Oct. 1. The gathering will be at the Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant in Schulenburg, with a start time of 11:30 a.m. This is the start of the 67th year since graduation from SHS. Classmates, their spouses and all surviving spouses are encouraged to attend. You do not need to contact anyone prior to Thursday, Oct. 1, just show up at 11:30 a.m.
Charity Golf Tournament
A Fore Lorenzo Estrada charity golf tournament and drivethru lunch will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at Frisch Auf! Country Club. Sign up at the pro shop. Four person scramble is $500 per team, includes lunch and mulligans. Cash prizes awarded and raffle prizes will be available. International Quilt Festival In Houston The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild is sponsoring a bus trip to the Houston International Quilt Festival on Saturday, Nov. 14. The large and luxurious bus will leave from the La Grange Walmart parking lot at 8 a.m. with a pick-up stop at the Columbus Walmart parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and on the way to Houston for a day of fun and quilts. Vietnam Veterans Meeting
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
Nathaniel Faison Program
A history theater program will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. at Historic Faison House, 822 S. Jefferson St., La Grange. Following the Monument Hill Remembrance: A Texas Heroes Day memorial ceremony that morning at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites, the program will bring the story of Nathaniel Faison to life. Garrett Reavis will portray Faison, telling the story of his journey to La Grange, his decision to go to war, his time in prison, and his return home, where he made his mark on the community—an impact that can still be seen today. The performance will feature artwork by Jasmina Kocurek, depicting scenes from Faison’s life and journey
