Woman Charged With Money Laundering

Woman Charged With Money Laundering

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Aug. 9 Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a gray Volvo on IH-10 westbound near the 665 mile marker for a traffic violation. Investigator Smith observed several criminal indicators and asked for assistance from the K-9 unit. Sgt. Randy Thumann later arrived and deployed K-9 Kolt, who alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted and Investigator Smith later located seven bundles of currency, which was packaged consistent with narcotic and money laundering organizations. A female passenger in the vehicle identified as Lydia Tanguma, 27 of Roma, claimed possession of the currency and she was transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, where she was later issued a summons to appear on the charge of Money Laundering. Investigator Smith located approximately $36,980 in currency. Also assisting on the scene was Deputy Herman Olvera.
