Winchester Book Club to Meet July 20
July 20 is the date for the next book club meeting. “The Guest List” by Lucy Foley will be discussed. There will be no meeting in August and the book selected for Sept. 21 meeting is “The Art of Hearing Heartbeats” by Jan-Philipp Sendker. Come join the group.
Winchester Area VFD Fish Fry
The Area Volunteer Fire Department invites you to their 24th Annual Fundraiser, Fish Fry and Auction on Saturday July 24 at St. Michael’s Park Pavilion in Winchester. Silent auction and bucket raffle will begin at 4 p.m. and meal will be served between 5-7 p.m. and will be dine in or carry out. Free-will donation will be accepted. Come join the Winchester Community in supporting the volunteer fire department.
Barn Board Quilt Trail
Many thanks to Georgianna Fox, owner of Murphy’s Steakhouse in Winchester for showcasing quilt blocks in her dining room. Five quilt blocks of varying designs are on display and can be viewed while you eat. The blocks are available for purchase for $85 and you can take it “to-go.” The Summer Star Quilt Block is prominently displayed on the west side of this historic building. This block is part of our Quilt Block Trail, so Georgianna’s staff serves many a meal to quilt block enthusiasts that are driving the trail. The Schmidt Building, which houses Murphy’s Steakhouse, was built in 1913 and lends a historic vibe to our community. So, drive on out to Winchester. pick up a map at Murphy’s and enjoy viewing the 65 quilt blocks displayed in our area. The trail is self-drive, available at your convenience, and is a great way to spend an afternoon viewing wildflowers and quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps can be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville and La Grange.
Recycling Trailer
The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow.
Zilss Community Hall
Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is following COVID-19 requirements. Rent is very reasonable.
The Little Free Library
The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event, you would like advertised, please post.

First United Methodist
The Winchester First United Methodist Church has returned to service inside the sanctuary. Please wear a mask and social distance inside the church. The Church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The Rev Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.
Shiloh Baptist Church

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church
The weekly worship service takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary. Following the worship service, you may gather in the Education Building for Bible Study and Sunday School beginning at 10:15 a.m.
