Walking With Faith Event Set for Sept. 11
Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Event to Honor Former LHS Student
Kyla Faith Drozd was an active student La Grange ISD, where she and friends interacted as any “normal” adolescents do. Very few would know that Kyla suffered from mental illness, as her smile and outgoing personality masked this from many.
On January 20, 2020, 16-year-old, free-spirited, talented, athletic and beautiful Kyla took her life after battling depression.
Kyla’s mother, Lindsey Tillery, with the help of her husband Eric, has since dedicated herself to honor Kyla and to helping those who suffer with mental illness.
The Kyla Faith Memorial Scholarship Board was founded and became a 5013c nonprofit organization to assist in mental health and suicide awareness. The board also provides scholarships to area youth.
The Board’s main fundraising event is the Annual Kyla Faith Memorial Rodeo “Riding with Faith.”
In addition, on September 11, 2021, the Board will host the 1st Annual “Walking with Faith” mental health and suicide awareness walk at the La Grange Fairgrounds starting at 6 p.m. There has been a recent increase in suicide and 1 in 4 people suffer from some form of mental illness. This walk is to remind everyone that they are not alone and together we are stronger. This event will include several activities for all ages, and everyone in the community is invited to attend. Community attendance will help raise mental health and suicide awareness, and support those whose lives have been impacted by mental illness. Admission is free. Check-in for Walking with Faith will be at 6 p.m. at the Sanford Schmidt Amphitheater at 250 W. Fairgrounds Road.
• Activities will include:
• Guest Speaker Austin Lanier at 6:30 p.m.
• Walk, kid’s races and activities at 7 p.m.
• Glow walk to begin at 8Pm
• Live music with Jody Booth at 9 p.m. (with continued glow walk).
There will also be hot dogs, popcorn, and other snacks available.
