VFW, Auxiliary Announce Essay Contest Winners

The local winners of the VFW student contests were announced at the January meeting. The local winner of the 2020-2021 Voice of Democracy $500 Scholarship was 12th grader Corina Blazek from the Round Top-Carmine I.S.D. and the daughter of Anthony and Graciela Blazek.

Second Place of the Voice of Democracy Contest was Amanda Urban, 11th grader at La Grange High School, and the daughter of Milton and Michelle Urban of La Grange.

Third Place winner of the Voice of Democracy was Aylah J. Robinson, a senior at La Grange High School and the daughter of Danita Robinson of La Grange.

The Voice of Democracy entries came from La Grange, Round Top/Carmine, Schulenburg, Plum and Giddings. The Theme for the VoD contest this year was “Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?”

The 2020-2021 Patriots Pen Contest was for grades 6 through 8 and their theme was “What is Patriotism to Me?” Winning first place was Bayley C. Pitts, 8th grader at Round Top/Carmine I.S.D. and the daughter of Christi Pitts. Bailey also won First Place at the District 28 Level as well as Second Place at the State Level. She received cash awards at the District 28 meeting on Sunday, Jan. 31. Her parents were present at the meeting along with VFW No. 5254 Commander Andrew Kruppa and Quartermaster Joe Kruppa. The meeting was held at VFW Post No. 8925 in Pilot Knob.

Second place winner was Evan R. Blazek, eighth grader at RT-C I.S.D, and son of Anthony and Graciela Blazek.

Tying for 3rd place were Daylin R. Pitts (daughter of Christi Pitts) and Gabrielle C. Jennings, daughter of Christine Jennings.

The five judges did an amazing job. They judged all entries anonymously, not knowing the identity of the entrants.
