Veterans Day Breakfast in Winchester to Honor Local Veterans
A Veterans Day Breakfast will be held to honor veterans who live in the Winchester area at Zilss Hall. A pancake breakfast will be held from 7-9 a.m. Everyone is welcome and you do not need to be a veteran to attend.
Cookie Exchange
The third annual Cookie Exchange for WACA will be held Nov. 16 at Zilss Hall from 2-4 p.m. Bring cookies to share with others attending and an extra plate to take some cookies home with you. Please bring a favorite recipe to share with the group.
Winchester Women Luncheon
The Winchester ladies’ luncheon is on Thursday, Nov. 13. This is the time to bring stocking stuffers for the Christmas stocking being given to Combined Community Action for their Holiday boxes. Please let Bobby Hajek know if you plan to attend the lunch at Murphy’s Steakhouse at 11 a.m. Contact Bobbie at (979) 639-1646.
Community Christmas Party
The Annual Community Christmas Party will be held at Zilss Hall on Dec. 5 beginning at 6 p.m. Baked potato and salad bar will be served with hot dogs available for those wishing a different menu item. Please enjoy an evening with a dinner, games, caroling and of course, Santa Claus.
Round Table Book Club
The Winchester Round Table Book Club has chosen “The Secret Book Society” by Madeline Martin for the November meeting which is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Zilss Hall at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
WACACommunity Service
Community Service Award nominations are due to Tammy Youngblood, Secretary, by Nov. 16. A letter with your nomination along with reasons for your selection will suffice. A nominee does not have to be a member of WACA and can be an individual or business. Award will be announced at the January WACA meeting.
Recycling Trailer
All cardboard boxes need to be broken down before placing them in the recycling trailer. We would appreciate it if you made sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow out. The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins.
Winchester Quilt Block Trail
Drive out to Winchester, pick up a map at Murphy’s or Zilss Hall, and enjoy viewing the 65 quilt blocks displayed in our area on the Quilt Block Trail. The trail is self-driven, available at your convenience, and is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon viewing quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps may be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, Zilss Hall, Murphy’s Steakhouse, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange.
Zilss Community Hall
Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is inexpensive and air conditioned and available for rentals.
The Little Free Library
The library is on the covered patio at the Hall and is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s) look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. Also on the patio, there is a bulletin board available to post event notices.

St. Michael’s Lutheran
The weekly worship service takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary. Following the worship service, you may gather in the Education Building for Bible Study and Sunday School beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Nate Hill is the pastor. You are welcome to visit.
