Two Arrested for Trying to Sell Stolen Cattle Here

Special Rangers with the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) recovered three heifers that were stolen in Robertson County at the Flatonia auction barn on Monday. Two men from Robertson County were arrested at the auction barn for theft of livestock.

Special Rangers in surrounding counties were alerted and provided with photographs of the missing livestock. TSCRA Market Inspectors were also notified of the missing cattle. One of their market inspectors located three heifers matching the description at the Flatonia Livestock Auction. Special Ranger Kenny Murchison responded to the auction. He inspected the animals and confirmed their identity based on unique markings, the TSCRA report said. Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Deputies Herman Olvera, Joe Gonzales, Sgt. Ron Naumann, and Lt. David Beyer with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Ranger Murchison at the auction barn. They located two suspects in the sales area and took them into custody.

The suspects, identified as Davarian Hurst, 19, of Franklin, and Kevondre Corona, 21, of Calvert, were taken into custody without incident. Both were transported to the Fayette County Jail and booked on charges of theft of livestock, a second-degree felony. The case remains under investigation and will be referred to the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. The cattle trailer used in the theft was stored at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office pending the investigation.

“All subjects are innocent until proven guilty,” Sheriff Korenek said in his statement.

Cattle have been bringing record-high prices at auction lately. That’s due to a number of economic factors, such as low prices for corn, shrinking livestock supply and recent import restrictions related to the New World Screwworm.
