Tutts Celebrate 50-Year Anniversary

Wayne and Cathleen Tutt, who reside in the Warda area, celebrated 50 years of marriage on Aug. 7 with a barbque dinner, drinks and dancing at Swiss Alp Hall. This joyous event was hosted by their children and attended by family and friends.

Wayne Tutt met Cathleen Pyburn during junior high in Dallas and they became sweethearts during their high school years. On August 7, 1971 following their first year of college, they were married at the First Methodist Church in Dallas.

After graduation from Texas A&M University, Wayne and Cathleen decided that they would move to the first town that offered both of them a teaching position. In 1976 they each received an offer from the town of Victoria. Wayne was a coach at Patty Welder Junior High and Cathleen taught health and physical education at Stroman High School. In the fall of 1978, Wayne changed careers and went to work for Union Carbide while Cathleen remained a life-long educator. They raised their family in Victoria and both retired in 2008 at which time they moved to La Grange to help with the family cattle ranch owned by Jack and Shirley Pyburn.

Cathleen loves genealogy and is active in multiple genealogical associations. Wayne loves hunting, fishing, and any outdoor activity. Their best times are spent with friends and family providing mentoring on ranch-related events such as sausage making and pickling/canning. They have given 50 years of love and support to all their nieces and nephews and are now enjoying spending time with the next generation.

Wayne and Cathleen were blessed with two children, and are so proud that they both followed their lead by also graduating from Texas A&M. Casey Tutt and wife, Kelly, of Midlothian, Cassidy (Tutt) Sawyer and husband, Dan, of Long Beach, California. They also have three grandchildren; Carter (16) Tutt; Cooper (13) Tutt and Riley Sawyer (16).
