Turtle Wing Hosts First Art Show at The Gallery at the Old Stanzel
April is always a busy month for the Turtle Wing Foundation as it is Autism Acceptance Month! Jack Hooper, whom the foundation was founded in memory of, was diagnosed with high functioning autism when he was six years old. Though the foundation serves all children with learning differences, not just autism, this is a special month as it is also the anniversary of Jack’s passing.
In January, Turtle Wing relocated their offices next to the On Pointe Dance Studio in a building that used to be part of the old Stanzel model airplane factory. When originally designed, the main hallway of the now multi-use business building was constructed and decorated to feature art. Affiliated with the dance studio, the arts was a theme to be carried throughout the campus. Recently, following their Turtle Wing Toast which featured artist Grant Manier, managing director Susie Shank arranged for a special art show to finally highlight the space and share the talents of Grant, who also has autism.
Through the generosity of the Gorman family, Turtle Wing will be hosting an opening of their EcoImpressionism show by Grant Manier on Saturday, April 10 from 5-7 p.m. at The Gallery at the Old Stanzel (2103 S. Kessler Ave., Schulenburg). Those able to attend this special evening will be treated to “light bites” by Callisto Cullinary, wine from Majek Vineyard, music by DIVISI Strings from Houston, and a feature performance with live music by our special needs inclusive dance class, The Dancing Turtles, at 6 p.m. Grant’s show and merchandise will remain at The Gallery at the Old Stanzel through May 15. After the opening the art is available for viewing 8-6 p.m. during weekdays, or for a tour and the opportunity to purchase Grant’s originals and merchandise the hours are limited to 10-2 during weekdays or by appointment.
Help the community celebrate Autism Acceptance! Grant has been a friend of Turtle Wing Foundation for seven years now. The community has been blessed to watch him grow into a successful young man, artist, illustrator, and special needs advocate. For those who have met Grant when he collaborated with Turtle Wing in the past, this is your chance to see his amazing inventory of originals in their full glory and visit with him about his unique Eco-Art style.

Turtle Wing Foundation has been providing Early Intervention, Supplemental Services and Community Education & Advocacy programming to children and families with academic, social-emotional, behavioral and/or developmental needs since 2012. Annually, over 300 children are receiving direct services with thousands more benefiting indirectly through education and advocacy work.
