Turtle Wing Foundation to Host Training Discussing Pathways to Adulthood For Children with Disabilities
Parents with children fourteen years of age and older who are still in school receiving special education services, along with the staff who work with them, would benefit from this Pathways to Adulthood training. They will learn new ideas and information about transition and the necessary planning to ensure that once their child exits the school system there is a success strategy set.
This training will help them find the tools available to begin planning your youth’s adulthood or adjust and affirm the plans already in place. Cynda Green and Cindi Paschall of Texas Parent to Parent will be facilitating this training on Friday, June 11. There is both an in-person option and a virtual option. The in-person training will be held at the Turtle Wing Foundation office at 1203 S. Kessler Ave., Schulenburg.
The sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch and networking opportunities provided in between. The trainers will be Zoomed in, but Turtle Wing staff will be present to facilitate discussion and answer questions. The virtual option will run concurrently, but you can participate from your office or home.

The morning session will discuss: managing emotions and the ups and downs of uncertain times, looking ahead and why having a plan is important, creating a vision and moving from fear to an action oriented plan, transition planning and preparing your youth for adulthood, and life-long learning post secondary education.
The afternoon session will then dive into: employment first and your child making a contribution through work, a place to call home, social security income (SSI) and social security disability insurance SSDI guardianship and alternatives, and medical transition. This is an incredible networking platform event for all parents and educators, even perhaps if you have attended a similar training. Needs, questions and concerns change and evolve as your child ages as well as programs and options.
Turtle Wing has been providing Early Intervention, Supplemental Services, and Community Education & Advocacy programming to children and families from Colorado, Fayette, Lavaca, and surrounding counties with academic, socialemotional, behavioral and/or developmental needs since 2012. Their mission is “helping children with learning challenges in rural areas achieve their full potential.” Last year over 300 children received direct services with thousands more benefiting indirectly through education and advocacy work.
