Turkey Stew Fundraiser Saturday

Don’t forget the 41st annual Turkey Stew, Bake Sale and Quilt Raffle held by St. Paul Lutheran this coming Saturday at the old firestation in the square. Serving to go begins at 10:30 a.m. Quart size to-go cups available but if you want more for a crowd, bring a heat-proof (non-plastic) container. Proceeds from the event are designated for painting the inside of the church.

Chamber Mixer The Greater Fayetteville

The Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce mixer at The Grand Fayette Hotel was a smashing success. Over 70 residents joined in the fun along with a few future residents who can’t wait to get here. Our mayor was there and our city council representatives Yvonne McGowen, Neal Doty and Emil Knodell dropped in. Announcements were made for all the upcoming events. Next up? Rock n’ Road 100

Last Saturday, over 400 riders took on gravel and paved roads around Fayetteville in the Rock n’ Road 100 cycling challenge sponsored by Bike Barn. The Ride Director, Mynette Murtagh, summarized the great experience. “We had a blast. Every rider was raving how beautiful the area was and how they can’t wait to do it again next year. We mapped out four beautiful routes. A great deal of planning with Mayor Mike Stroup and Jerry and Joan Herring went into the ride, resulting in an absolutely perfect day from start to finish.” “This was the last big event

“This was the last big event by Bike Barn. The stores have been acquired by Trek so we sent the owners out with a bang. From the pre-ride dinner at the Wine Bar to the lunch served on the square catered by Peter’s BBQ, to all the stops along the way: the Winchester Depot in Winchester, Royer’s Pie Haven in Round Top and the Lindemann store in Industry, it was such a great send off. I’m just so grateful for all the local support and volunteers. And we’re honored to contribute a portion of the proceeds to the Fayetteville Community Center and Performance Theater.”

“The weather was perfect for a bike ride —a perfect Chamber of Commerce day in Fayette County,” commented Mayor Mike Stroup. “The Friday night dinner at the Wine Bar was fun. The sheriff’s department did a great job on the highway crossings (thanks to Sergeant Baumann). Many of the participants stayed overnight in Fayetteville. Thanks to Bike Barn, Trek and all involved.”

Veteran’s Day Closure

City offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

FISD News

Last week, Pre-K at FISD learned all about our vital community responders, Fayette County EMS.

On Thursday, Nov. 11, all veterans are being asked to meet at the town square at 8 a.m. FISD Superintendent Dr. Jeff Harvey (former Marine) and Mr. Ray Brothers, FISD Technology Director (retired Air Force) will lead veterans from the town square to the school for the upcoming Veterans Day parade.

Mobile Food Pantry Look for the Central Texas

Look for the Central Texas Mobile Food Pantry to be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Friday, Nov. 19. Drive-thru only. Someone will direct traffic. Please remain in your car and make room inside your trunks or truck beds for the prepackaged food boxes. Volunteers will load you up. All clients and volunteers are required to wear facemasks and to social distance.

Exhibit at ARTS The exhibit “Flyover Season”

The exhibit “Flyover Season” at Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) will remain open through Dec. 4. Fiber Artist Bobbe Shapiro Nolan’s fiber art pieces are a unique approach to the more traditional fiber arts of quilting, embroidering and weaving. Her works have been recognized nationally and have been included in such notable exhibitions as the “Form Not Function” show and exhibition at the Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Indiana.

The gallery at ARTS is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4p.m. It’s free to the public.
