Trio of Fire Calls Last Week

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Tuesday morning around 10:51 a.m., the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls reporting an 18-Wheeler on fire on I-10 westbound near the 658 mile marker.

The Flatonia Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene and requested assistance from the Waelder and Schulenburg Fire Departments who also responded to the scene. Fayette County Deputy Terry Geuntert and Fayette County EMS Medic Unit 3 and EMS 2 supervisor also responded.

The fire was contained and several UPS packages had to be unloaded off the trailer that was hauling them. Assisting unloading the packages from the trailer was Precinct 3 employees. The fire was believed to have started from brakes.

Around 1:22 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call reporting a grass fire on FM 1383 near Ammannsville. The Schulenburg Fire Department responded to the scene and requested assistance from the Weimar Fire Department who also responded to the scene. The fire was contained and extinguished and the cause of the fire was from Farm Equipment.

Around 5:14 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call reporting a grass fire I-10 westbound at the 661 mile marker in Flatonia. The Flatonia Fire Department was notified and responded to the grass fire along with Flatonia Police Officers Kalina, Grace, DPS Trooper Brindle, and Deputy Jason Fowler. The Flatonia Fire Department requested assistance from the Muldoon Fire Department who were notified and responded. The grass fire was extinguished and there were no reported structures lost.
