Traffic Violation Leads To Arrest

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Friday morning, Sept. 3, around 1 a.m. Deputy Jared Michalec conducted a traffic stop on State Hwy. 71 westbound near West Point on a 2021 Ford Explorer for a traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver the odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle occupied by four subjects.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and marijuana was locaJed along with a bottle of promethazine syrup.

Deputy Orlando Buitron-Solares arrived and assisted Michalec. Arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center was 29-year-old Gavin Mikia Bowens of Austin who was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. The other subjects were released with the vehicle.
