Third Local Entity Mulls Partnership With ICE
The Schulenburg City Council were scheduled to meet in executive session Monday night, Aug. 3, to consider a participation agreement between the Schulenburg Police Department and the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency through the 287(g) program.
Fayette County and the City of La Grange have both signed similar agreements. The 287(g) program provides substantial grant funding to local law enforcement agencies for assisting federal ICE agents with immigration enforcement. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding through the program.
