Flatonia Baptist Team Shares Faith Through Germany Sports Camp

Penny and Steven McFarlin, Lora Cherry and I were among 32 mission team members from the Flatonia Baptist Church to head to Germany. We traveled to Bunde, Germany, to put on a baseball and cheer camp. It was a wonderful trip where our host homes took us to some German attractions before we got down to the work of baseball and cheer camp.

We had over 120 kids enrolled in camp and all were eager to learn cheer and baseball. It was a great experience from spreading the gospel to teaching the kids how fun it is to cheer and how to play the game of baseball. The weather was absolutely wonderful while we were there, with temperatures so much cooler than home. The hottest day was in the 80s and most days were in the 60s and 70s. Getting back home to the warmer temps has been an adjustment for us all.

Out and About 

Pam Sheffield has been traveling. She went to Cypress a few weeks to keep her two little granddaughters while their parents took a vacation to Grand Cayman Islands. Then she headed to Lubbock to stay with her cousin Donna for a week after her knee replacement surgery. Pam was able to take Donna to her therapy sessions, as well as help her with shopping and tasks around her house. When she returned from Lubbock, she went to Spring to spend a week with her 12-year-old grandson while his parents went to Washington for a vacation to celebrate their anniversary. Her grandson loves basketball, so they spent the week buying basketball cards and new basketball shoes. Pam took him to his gym at his church so that he could practice shooting hoops. They also ate out quite a few meals, played Skip-Bo and had a great time together.

John and Debra Schwartzenburg traveled to Marksville, Louisiana, recently to visit John’s uncle, Ralph Schwartzenburg. While there, they took Uncle Ralph to church and enjoyed lots of family remembrances with pictures that came with family history recalled by Uncle Ralph. While in Louisiana John and Debra got to enjoy an authentic Cajun meal at a local restaurant, and that was a real treat, taking John back to his Louisianna roots.

Darrell and Dana Kulak took off for a weekend in Midloathian, visiting grandbabies, Henry and Calvin; along Henry and Calvin’s parents, Elton and Miko Kulak.

Devon Boehnke enjoyed having his granddaughter Ruth Cruz, her husband Dan and their daughter Laurel, who all came in for a visit from Lubbock. It was a really nice visit and it was a great time to catch up on how everything was going and see how much Laurel had grown.

Celebrates Birthday 

Ron Knotts recently celebrated his 79th birthday with a celebratory lunch at the new Longhorn Steakhouse in Bastrop. He and wife Pamela shared a wonderful feast managed by a charming server named Angel. Hot bread arrived first with extra butter and cool ice tea was welcome on a hot day. They decided to start with a nice green salad with blue cheese dressing. Then the birthday boy chose a sirloin steak with a loaded baked potato for the main course. Cooked perfectly it was a treat to enjoy. For dessert there was a super-sized ice cream sundae served in a tall drink glass with tons of whipped cream and one lit candle topping it off. A wonderful relaxing day with a delicious meal made for a great birthday celebration.
