Ten Have Filed for Local Races

Those interested in running for office in the March 1 party primaries must file for candidacy by Dec. 13. The filing period opened on Nov. 13.

As of Tuesday, Nov. 16, Fayette County Republican Party Chair Deborah Frank reported that 10 people have filed for candidacy to local office, including six incumbents:

• William Bernsen for County Judge

• Linda Svrcek for District Clerk (incumbent)

• Brenda Fietsam for County Clerk (incumbent)

• Luke Sternadel for Pct. 2 County Commissioner (incumbent)

• Drew Brossmann for Pct. 4 County Commissioner (incumbent)

• Kyle Hartman for Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace (incumbent)

• Jamie Moreau for Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace

• Victor Weishuhn for Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace

• Brad Neville for Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace

• Charles Zapalac for Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace (incumbent)

Fayette County Democratic Chair David McCall reported that no one has yet filed as a Democratic candidate for local office as of Tuesday.

Those interested in running as a Republican or Democrat for county office must file an application for a place on the primary ballot with their county party chair. Anyone interest in running as an independent for local office must file a form called a “Declaration of Intent to Run as an Independent Candidate” between Nov. 13 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 with the County Judge. They must then file a candidate application and nominating petition by 5 p.m. on June 23, 2022 with the County Judge. The nominating petition must be signed by registered voters who did not participate in the primary election.
