Summer Internship Being Offered at Kreische Brewery
Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host a new college internship program to support visitor services and special projects during summer 2021. The paid, part-time internship is funded by the Sites’ non-profit Friends organization and supervised by the Sites’ staff. The position is open to current college students and recent college graduates. Site staff are now accepting applications and hope to start the internship in May.
The intern will assist visitors center operations by greeting visitors, providing orientations, and processing admission and retail sales. The intern will also provide regular interpretive programs like guided tours, education programs, and roving interpretation. “We’re looking forward to the student’s contributions to social media, website content, and other visitor resources,” says Assistant Sites Manager Gavin Miculka. Expanded visitor programs and hours will also be made possible, in part, by this new position.
In addition to the day-to-day visitor services, the summer intern will select a special project that meets their interests and field of study while furthering the Sites’ and Friends’ strategic plans. This special project presents an opportunity to apply students’ unique skills, knowledge, and abilities to Sites initiatives. Possible projects include marketing plans, planning special events, developing new education and interpretation programs, conducting archival research, surveying visitors, and more.
While this paid internship may fulfill college credit, it will also provide the student with an opportunity to learn and develop skills in public speaking, writing, interpretation, event planning, park and sites management, and more.
A background in park management, interpretation, history, communications, education, or a related field is preferred but any major is welcome to apply. Applicants should have excellent communication skills, proficient computer knowledge, and an ability to foster interpersonal relationships. More information is available on the Friends website: www.friendsofkreischebrewery.org/internship. Questions and applications (a cover letter and resume) should be sent via email to gavin.miculka@thc.texas.gov.
