St. Michael’s Lutheran Church Annual Picnic is this Saturday
Mark your calendar, the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church will hold their annual picnic on Saturday, June 19. Events will begin at 3 p.m. and include a bounce house, washer tournament, and live auction. The meal will be served starting at 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Pork or chicken barbecue, potato salad, noodles, beans, bread, and iced tea will be furnished at $12 a plate. Seating and activities will take place outside and in the air-conditioned pavilion. Come meet your neighbors.
Book Club Meeting
The Winchester Book Club was cancelled this last month due to the weather. The book “The Only Woman in the Room” by Marie Benedict will be discussed along with “Defending Jacob” by William Landay at the meeting on June 15 at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall. Please come and join.
Neighbors Night Out
Neighbors Night Out for June will be held at the home of Evelyn Parker at 1926 FM 448 in Winchester on Wednesday June 16 at 6:30 p.m. Come and meet your neighbors and enjoy fellowship. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share and a lawn chair. Mosquito spray may also be a good idea.
Young at Heart
A great crowd attended Young at Heart this last week with several tables of “42” dominoes, chicken-foot, and canasta. The next meeting will be on June 22 at 2 p.m. at Zilss Hall. Bring a dish to share.
Vacation Bible School
St. Michael’s Lutheran Church invites you to participate in their summer evening Vacation Bible School. This year’s theme in “Rainforest Explorers: Jesus Lead the Way.” All children between the ages of 4 – 11 are welcome to attend. It will be held at St. Michael’s Park at 310 Frio Street in Winchester and will begin on Sunday, June 27 and will run through Thursday, July 1 from 5:30-8 p.m. There is no cost. Each evening, a meal and snack will be provided along with story-time, music, games, and crafts. You may register at www.stmichaelswinchester.org. Recycling Trailer
The Winchester recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow.
Zilss Community Hall
Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is following COVID-19 requirements. Rent is very reasonable.
The Little Free Library
The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event, you would like advertised, please post.
Barn Board Quilt Trail
Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps can be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange. The trail is self-drive, is available at your convenience and is a great way to spend an afternoon viewing the wildflowers and the beautiful quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road.

Condolences
Sarah Adele Schueler, 46, daughter of Rosenberg Reverend Wayne A. and Ann Markert Schueler passed away on Tuesday, June 1. She was at her home in Willis. She is survived by her parents, brother Matthew and sister Joanna. Pastor Schueler was a pastor at the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester from 1987 to 1997. A Celebration of Life will be held for Sarah on June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1512 Louise Street, Rosenberg.
Sincerest sympathy is offered to the family of Melvin Schmidt who passed away at the age of 90 at his home in Sealy Texas. He was the son of Oscar and Adelia (Froehlich) Schmidt. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia and four sons and their families along with four grandchildren and three infant great grandchildren. Mr. Schmidt will be buried at the Winchester Cemetery.
St. Michael’s Lutheran Church
The Board of Elders at their last meeting determined that beginning Sunday, July 4th, the church will be returning to normal worship practices. This means that for the remainder of June, they will continue to offer worship in its current format allowing the option for drivein participation, but beginning on the first Sunday in July, this option will no longer be available. They will rejoice to see everyone together once again in the sanctuary. There will be no requirement for anyone to take preventive measures such as social distancing, hand sanitizing, or mask wearing, but of course, will respect the choice of those who choose to take preventive measures for themselves while returning indoors.
First United Methodist
The Winchester First United Methodist Church has returned to service inside the sanctuary. Please wear a mask and social distance inside the church. The Church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The Rev Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.
Shiloh Baptist Church
