St. Michael’s Annual Church Picnic June 19
Mark your calendar, the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church will hold their annual picnic on Saturday, June 19. Events will begin at 3 p.m. and include a bounce house, washer tournament, and live auction. The meal will be served from at 5-6:30 p.m. Pork or chicken BBQ, potato salad, noodles, beans, bread, and iced tea will be furnished at $12 a plate. Seating and activities will take place outside and in the air-conditioned pavilion. Come meet your neighbors.
Quilt Block Paint Class
The next paint class will be held on Saturday, June 12, 10 a.m. at Zilss Hall. The class is 6 hours and a 2 x 2 quilt block will be completed. Registrations are still available, and you may register at www. quiltblocktrail.com. You may use a credit card to pay the registration fee of $65 by calling Rhoda Gersch at (979) 242-3213. The only thing you need to bring to class is a sack lunch all other supplies are provided.
Book Club Meeting
The Winchester Book Club was cancelled this last month due to the weather. The book “The Only Woman in the Room” by Marie Benedict will be discussed along with “Defending Jacob” by William Landay at the meeting on June 15 at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall. Please come and join.
Neighbors Night Out
Neighbors Night Out for June will be held at the home of Evelyn Parker at 1926 FM 448 in Winchester on Wednesday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m. Come and meet your neighbors and enjoy fellowship. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share and a lawn chair. Mosquito spray may also be a good idea.
Vacation Bible School
St. Michael’s Lutheran Church invites you to participate in their summer evening Vacation Bible School. This year’s theme in “Rainforest Explorers: Jesus Lead the Way.” All children between the ages of 4 – 11 are welcome to attend. It will be held at St. Michael’s Park at 310 Frio Street in Winchester and will begin on Sunday, June 27 and will run through Thursday, July 1 from 5:30-8 p.m. There is no cost. Each evening, a meal and snack will be provided along with story-time, music, games, and crafts. You may register at www.stmichaelswinchester.org.

Barn Board Quilt Trail
Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps can be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange. The trail is self-drive, is available at your convenience and is a great way to spend an afternoon viewing the wildflowers and the beautiful quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road.
Recycling Trailer
The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow.
Zilss Community Hall
Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is following COVID-19 requirements. Rent is very reasonable.
The Little Free Library
The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event, you would like advertised, please post.

New Baby
Brittni and Michael Adams welcomed the birth of their new daughter. Reyna Mae was born May 27 and weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz and was 18.5 inches long. Reyna is welcomed by her big sisters Clara and Emma, grandparents Linda and John Adams and great grandmother, Jeanette Franke all of Winchester.
Condolences
Condolences are extended to the family of Rev. William Qualman who passed away at his home in Winchester after a short illness. Pastor Qualman is survived by his wife Lisa and grandson Gabe of Winchester and son Matthew and family of Austin.
St. Michael’s Lutheran Church
Continuing for all future worship services unless notified otherwise, St Michael’s will be changing the format of their worship services as they continue to adapt to COVID-19. The new worship format will allow those who are comfortable returning to worship service in the sanctuary to do so while still making accommodations for those who would prefer to participate from their vehicles in the parking lot. The wearing of a mask or face covering is optional currently for those participating in the sanctuary. Every other pew will be marked off to allow spacing between groups. If you have questions or concerns, please call Pastor Nate at (979) 966-8036. You can continue to attend to worship in your car.
First United Methodist
The Winchester First United Methodist Church has returned to service inside the sanctuary. Please wear a mask and social distance inside the church. The church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The Rev. Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.
Shiloh Baptist Church
