St. Mark’s Medical Center (SMMC) is proud to announce Shalonda Johnson, Lead Tech Materials Management, and Ashley Havel, Director of Imaging, as winners of the hospital’s Dan Wilford Award for Compassion and Community Service, for 2020 and 2021, respectively.

The award is named for Dan Wilford, retired president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Houston, and a founding board member of Community Hospital Corporation (CHC), the afiliate management organization of SMMC.

Local winners were selected by SMMC leadership from a pool of nominees submitted by their peers, and each received a $500 gift card and framed certificate of appreciation at a reception attended by their family and SMMC staff. Additionally, their nomination forms were submitted to CHC for selection of the organization’s overall Dan Wilford Award winner; 2021’s will be announced later this year.

Johnson has served since 2005 at SMMC and was chosen as the 2020 winner for her strong work ethic, positive attitude, and prioritization of patient care needs above all else. Outside of her role at SMMC, Johnson is also recognized as a pillar in her large extended family and community, including giving back through coaching of various sports teams that her sons participated.

“Shalonda’s nomination form described her as a ray of sunshine at our hospital,” said SMMC Chief Nursing Officer Tammy Hartfield. “Especially during this last year, her ability to bring light to all that she touches in our facility has impacted our patients’ experience and is appreciated by staff, patients and their families. We’re pleased to finally be able to properly celebrate Shalonda’s contributions to SMMC.”

Havel’s 15-year career at SMMC is marked with advancement in a highly regulated and technical area of radiology and cardiovascular imaging. Her award nomination detailed her abilities to manage with precision and compassion, ensuring that the department delivers high quality service to all SMMC patients. In the community, she also serves as a Fayetteville PTC member and lector with St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

“Ashley’s dedication to SMMC, her team, and our patients was never more evident than during the recent winter weather emergency,” said Mark Kimball, SMMC CEO. “She unselfishly served continuous days and nights to maintain operations when others were unable to travel to the hospital. It is my pleasure to recognize Ashley with this year’s Dan Wilford Award.”
