A Special Letterman Jacket Presentation at LHS
At last week’s pep rally, La Grange High School student Curtis Smith, right, was presented a special letterman jacket by principal John Pineda, left, during a special ceremony that left many in attendance crying tears of joy “The reason Curtis received his letter jacket is twofold. We aimed to recognize a student who embodies the values upheld by La Grange High School. Curtis Smith exemplifies a model student inside and outside the classroom, consistently displaying courtesy and friendliness to everyone he meets. He is always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Curtis has a welcoming attitude and treats others with respect and kindness,” Pineda said.
“Typically, students who participate in Special Olympics have the opportunity to earn a letter jacket. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to participate in Special Olympics this year. However, we still wanted to acknowledge Curtis’s accomplishments his freshman and sophomore year. In the past, we have presented jackets to our Special Olympics team members before a home football game. This year, we decided to present the jacket during our pep rally, in front of a captured audience. The enthusiastic response from the crowd when Curtis was surprised was truly uplifting and reinforced the reasons behind this recognition.”
