Shorthorn Band Invited to 2022 National Memorial Day Parade

The American Veterans Center and Music Celebrations International have invited the Schulenburg High School Marching Shorthorn Band from Schulenburg to be an Official Representative of Texas in the nationally-televised 2022 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.

This patriotic spectacle will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2022. The parade will take place in the heart of the United States Capital, making its way west down Constitution Avenue, and ending at the National Mall between the White House and the Washington Monument.

The Schulenburg High School Marching Shorthorn Band will be featured alongside bands representing all 50 states and other parade performers officially selected to march in this historic tribute to America’s heroes, past and present. The 2022 National Memorial Day Parade is the culmination of a weekend-long Memorial Day Commemoration, preceded by the National Memorial Day Concert Series and Choral Festival, happening at several of the area’s most well-known memorials and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, respectively. All three events will feature officially selected ensembles from around the country.

The Schulenburg Marching Shorthorn band has a rich history of success. The band has received numerous 1st division ratings at UIL contests and awards at contests across the state dating back to the 1950s.

The band has had students representing the program on the state level both in the ATSSB-All State Honor Band as well as the UIL State Solo and ensemble contest.

Under the new direction of Mr. Justin Bartlett the band has received straight ones at UIL Concert and sightreading, the saxophone ensemble qualified for state, and two students made the Region Honor Bands.

Anyone wanting to make a donation to help cover the cost of getting the entire marching band to D.C. can contact Director of Bands: Justin Bartlett at jbartlett@schulenburgisd.net.
