Sheriff Korenek Reports on May Activities
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of May.
Deputy Ben Wilson responded to a disturbance between two persons at a residence off of Hallstedt Road. No charges were filed and the parties were separated. Wilson also responded to a theft of a trailer off of property located on FM 159. A report was taken and the investigation continues.
Investigator Marc Bennett investigated a criminal mischief report to property off of Prihoda Road. The responsible party was located and found to be a family member. No charges were filed. Bennett also investigated the theft of a four wheeler.
Deputy Ryan Meagher stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration on State Highway 71. Investigation lead to the driver being arrested on a warrant and a weapon was located in the vehicle. The driver was arrested on the warrant and additionally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Deputy Terry Guentert responded to a tractor accident on US Hwy 90 just outside of Schulenburg. The operator of the tractor was carrying a large load with the loader and the tractor rolled over due to the weight of the load shifting. Guentert also responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 10 near Flatonia. The fire was extinguished and there were no reported injuries.
Deputy A. J. Gonzales stopped the driver of a vehicle on Interstate 10 for an equipment violation. The result of the stop resulted in the driver being arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Gonzales also stopped a driver of a vehicle who was identified in an attempted homicide in Lavaca County after a pursuit. The driver was taken into custody.
Deputy Herman Olvera took a report from a citizen in the Flatonia area who reported his information was used to open a cell phone line with Verizon.
Deputy Rick Martell took a report of a stolen trailer from the Swiss Alp area. Martell also spoke with a complainant in reference to a scam.
Investigator Kenn Kretz responded to Colorado County where a vehicle was stopped for a road rage incident which occurred in Fayette County. The driver of the suspect vehicle shot a crossbow at another vehicle during the road rage. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
Deputy Joe Gonzales took a report of a theft of a package from a residence off of Creamer Creek Road. Gonzales also responded to the Round Top Merchantile for a mentally ill female. The female was transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Deputy Michael Krenek investigated an inquest in the Plum area. The death was deemed natural.
Deputy Tammy McCleney responded to a possible burglary in progress at a residence off of Trinity School Road. While handling the call a wanted suspect was located and arrested. McCleney also took a report of criminal mischief to a vehicle off of Cottonwood Road. A suspect was identified and later arrested on a warrant.
Deputy Jarred Michalec stopped a driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 near West Point. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of marijuana and was arrested. Michalec also responded to a burglary in progress of a residence near Winchester. Michalec located a male suspect fleeing the residence and gave chase on foot. The suspect was caught and arrested.
Deputy Seth Nagel responded to a vehicle fire on US Hwy 77 near FM 155. Upon arrival smoke was seen coming from the tire area and Nagel was able to extinguish the fire with his extinguisher.
Deputy Orlando Buitron responded to a suspicious person in the Kirtley area. The person was located and found to be intoxicated and he was arrested.
Deputy Lee Phillips responded to a residence at Clark’s Trailer Park for a possible kidnapping. The incident was found to actually be an assault which occurred and the suspect was arrested by the Schulenburg Police Department on unrelated charges. Phillips also responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 10 near the 675 mile marker. The Schulenburg Fire Department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was a total loss and there were no reported injuries.
Deputy Dustin Kieschnick stopped the driver of a vehicle on Interstate 10 for a moving violation. The driver was found to be in possession of narcotics and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Jail Administrator Edward Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 61 individuals for the month of May and transported zero individuals to the Texas Department of Corrections Facilities due to COVID-19.
