Sheriff Korenek Reports on April Activity

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of April.

Deputy Ben Wilson took a report of a stolen truck and trailer from property off of FM 609 near La Grange. The trailer was later recovered in Bastrop County and the truck is still missing. Wilson also responded to an inquest at a residence off of US Hwy 77 near La Grange. The death was determined to be from natural causes.

Investigator Marc Bennett is working several cases involving a sexual assault reported back in July of 2020, an assault on Interstate 10, a theft of livestock case, and a harassment case. Bennett identified juveniles in a burglary case in the Fayetteville area and the incident was resolved in Justice of the Peace Court Two.

Sergeant Ron Naumann took a criminal mischief case report where a window to a residence was damaged by what appears to be a bb from an air rifle. Naumann also took another criminal mischief report where a vehicle belonging to a male was spray painted by the female while at a local business due to marital issues between the two no charges were filed.

Deputy Ryan Meagher stopped the driver of a vehicle on Interstate 10 near the 674 mile marker for a traffic violation. The driver was found to be in possession of THC oil and was arrested.

Deputy Terry Guentert took a burglary report of a barn located in the Flatonia area with numerous items taken in the burglary.

Deputy A.J. Gonzales stopped a driver of a vehicle on Interstate 10 near the 661 mile marker. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of marijuana and was arrested. Deputy Herman Olvera assisted Bastrop County with a pursuit ending in Fayette County in the Clear Lake Pines subdivision. The fleeing driver was apprehended. Olvera also responded to Wood Creek Drive near the Gonzales county line where a male was obstructing a roadway by standing in the roadway. The male was located and arrested.

Deputy Rick Martell responded to a residence on Plum Church Road for a disturbance. A female on scene alleges that she was assaulted by her husband however, there was no evidence indicating an assault occurred. The male and female were separated for the remainder of the evening.

Investigator Kenn Kretz arrested an individual in La Grange who possessed an outstanding warrant for a felony probation violation.

Deputy Joe Gonzales responded to a structure fire of a home off of FM 609. The home was a complete loss and no injuries or deaths were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be that of faulty electrical wiring. Gonzales also responded to the Ledbetter Post Office for a male subject violating a trespass warning. The male was located and arrested.

Deputy Michael Krenek responded to a domestic disturbance in the Schulenburg area. Upon arrival the parties had already separated and no charges were filed. Krenek also checked on a suspicious vehicle reported stopped in the median of Interstate 10 near Schulenburg. The vehicle was located and the occupant of the vehicle was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Deputy Tammy McCleney responded to a disturbance and during the investigation one subject was arrested for outstanding warrants. McCleney met with a property owner who reported estray cattle on his property. The cattle were removed and an owner was later located.

Deputy Jared Michalec stopped the driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 near Ellinger for driving without head lamps when required. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for a felony warrant. Michalec also responded to a disturbance in the Ellinger area where a female and male were assaulted by another male. The male was identified and a warrant was issued.

Deputy Seth Nagel assisted in a pursuit that initiated in Colorado County and traveled through Fayette County and on into Bastrop County. Nagel discontinued the pursuit upon entering Bastrop County. Nagel also stopped the driver of a vehicle for a moving violation on State Highway 71 near St. James Church Road. The driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant. During the arrest marijuana was located in the vehicle and the driver was charged additionally.

Deputy Orlando Buitron responded to Zapalac Road for a suspicious person. Buitron located a female in the area and investigation resulted in the female being arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Buitron also responded to a disturbance at a residence in the Ellinger area. A male subject on location was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Deputy Lee Phillips transported a mentally ill person from St. Mark’s Medical Center to Georgetown for further treatment. Phillips also took a dog bite report which occurred in the Schulenburg area.

Deputy Dustin Kieschnick stopped the driver of a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the stop the driver was found to have a warrant and was arrested. Kieschnick also stopped another driver of a vehicle for a traffic violation and that driver as well possessed a warrant and was arrested.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 73 individuals for the month of April and no individuals were transported to the Texas Department of Corrections Facilities due to COVID-19.
