Shared Lutheran Ministry Fun Nights Announced
SLM Fun Nights with potluck have been scheduled. They will be held the fourth Wednesday of each month, rotating between the four churches. Gathering and social time will be from 5:30-6 p.m., the meal at 6 p.m., and games, social time, a special focus or craft, etc. at about 6:30 p.m. this month the SLM will be gathering at St. John Lutheran in Ellinger on Sept. 22. There will be games and fun for all. Also bring canned soup,stew, or chili to be given to AMEN.
Roast Beef and Sausage Dinner
St. John Lutheran Church of Ellinger, located at the corner of W. Fayette St. and Grover St., will be sponsoring its annual Roast Beef and Sausage Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 10. Peter’s BBQ will be catering the meal. Sides and desserts will also be served. Plates for the to go only/drive thru meal will be $12 per plate. Plates may be picked up from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting Lucille Koehl-(979) 966-7710; Sharon Fritsch- (979) 966-3515; Gladys Koehl- (979) 966-7751; or any member of the St. John Congregation. There will be a limited number of tickets at the drive thru, so get your advanced tickets.
Fayetteville Brethren Church
Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.
Ellinger Sewer and Water
The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. Greg Hunger, president, called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. with seven directors in attendance. There was one concern about cones and dirt left on Fordtrandt after a water line repair. The utility manager will address the issue with the contractor.
Next the minutes from the Special meeting held on Aug. 31 were presented. Attending this meeting were Hunger, Roy Moore, Mike Schlabach, Bradley Dunk, Curtis Zwahr, Walter Reynolds, Bradley Loehr, Joe Lamer, and Wayne Kocian. The first order of business was to discuss and take action on a new board member. Roy Moore made a motion to nominate Paula Urban to fill Ruth Horndt’s vacated position. Zwahr seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
The second item of business was to take action on a land lease agreement between the City of Ellinger and the Ellinger Sewer and Water Corporation. Schlabach made a motion to accept the land lease from the City of Ellinger. Roy Moore seconded the motion and it carried. Next Moore made a motion to move forward with the TWDB loan as long as it is a forgivable loan; it was seconded by Schlabach and motion carried.
Finally the BEFCO contract for $1,128,000 was accepted upon approval of the forgivable loan. Moore and Zwahr made the motions and the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:51 p.m. The minutes from the regular Aug. 9 meeting were also presented and approved.
Next, Ciara Craig of Inframark presented the manager’s report. She reported that 849,000 gallons of water were produced in August and 619,000 gallons were billed during this cycle. The monthly water accountability was at 94%. Inframark personnel responded to pumps no. 1 and 2 run time alarm; reset alarm. Electric motor service performed a twelve month PM of the air compressor and did an inspection on the generator as well. Water leaks were repaired on E. Hollemann St. on August 9, Schmacher on Aug. 18, and another on Schumacher on Aug. 30. Additionally she presented the operational expenses totaling $4,177.12 for the month. Dunk and Moore motion to accept the manager’s report and it carried.
Next Bradley Loehr presented the Engineer’s report. His report noted that the retainage pay request for $28,703.20 is required. Moore and Schlabach motioned to make the payment which is funded by the USDA Loan. Loehr has communicated with USDA; he noted that once the well project is closed out USDA will notify EWS of remaining funds and the Corporation will have thirty days to notify USDA of plans for remaining funds. The only update regarding the TWDB Arsenic Treatment Project included the completion of the 2020 audit.
Loehr presented a report on system strengths and weaknesses in regards to the proposed apartment complex. After discussion the board motioned to only allow ten apartment units at this time. Thirty-eight units would maximize water line and booster pump capacity. Dunk and Zwahr motioned to accept the engineer’s report; motion carried.
The financial reports were presented and approved. Next the (FMT) financial, managerial, and technical audit was presented. The Corporation received 41 strengths out of 50. Areas for change included: metered water rates for winter average to address base sewer rates; record keeping-manuals need to be kept at well and sewer sites; implement a five year plan; water conservation plan; source water protection program; and staff and board training. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

The Ellinger VFD will hold its next regular meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
