Senior Connections to Hear from Angela Hahn Tuesday
Senior Connections, a vibrant community hub for individuals aged 55 and up, welcomes seniors from Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca counties to enjoy the fun and fellowship. With no membership fees, this dynamic organization offers a variety of activities, delicious meals, and the opportunity to connect with old friends and make new ones.
Each location: Schulenburg (111 Bohlmann Ave.), Weimar (First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Saint Charles St.), and Flatonia (Methodist Church, 403 E. North Main St.) opens its doors at 9 a.m. Members are greeted with warm smiles and a hot cup of coffee as they gather for activities like dominoes, Sequence, and Torak, helping to keep their minds sharp. Lunch is served at 11:15 a.m., followed by our popular “Lunch and Learn” program from 12-12:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and every day has bingo that lasts until 1:45 p.m.
Join on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Flatonia Methodist Church in the charming Newman Hall, surrounded by windows that let in plenty of natural light. The menu includes baked ziti and fresh vegetables, alongside our famous house salad topped with seasonal fruit and delicious garlic bread, sure to fill the room with enticing aromas. Angela Hann, Fayette County’s emergency coordinator, will lead our Lunch and Learn session, discussing her work and offering tips on preparing for natural disasters. After lunch, Crown Hospice will join us for bingo at 12:30 p.m., promising a fun afternoon.
We expect a packed house on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in Schulenburg because of our culinary special by Connie Koopmann and her catering crew, featuring her renowned chicken-fried steak and gravy, buttered potatoes, and a fresh house salad. We’ll also celebrate our birthday honorees for October with a group photo at 11 a.m. and a special cake made by Debbie, one of our wonderful supporters. Following this festive gathering, Jeffrey from Flatonia Healthcare will host bingo.
On Thursday, Oct. 16, our creative members will continue their art classes at 1206 S. Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg. These month-long workshops began earlier this month and will allow students to explore their artistic talents. Diana Chafin has them thinking outside the box with her found object assemblages, and my class continues working on their mosaics. After class, everyone is invited to enjoy a meal together and catch up.
October’s outing to the Czech Heritage Fall Festival in La Grange at the Fairgrounds is Oct. 18. While sign-ups closed on the Oct. 8, we encourage everyone to meet there from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. for a day of fun and festivities.
