Senior Connections Brings Fun, Fellowship to Five Area Locations

With five locations to serve you, including our main campus at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Schulenburg; First United Methodist Church at 301 W. Saint Charles St., Weimar; Flatonia Methodist Church at 403 E. North Main St., Flatonia; the Randolph Recreation Center at 653 E. Pearl St., La Grange; and 1206 Lyons Ave. at Arts for Rural Texas in Schulenburg. There is a place near you to join in the fun.

Senior Connections is grateful for those of you who came out to support our creative members of Senior Connections at our Ageless Artistry Showcase on Saturday. You can view the art in person at Jack’s Gallery, 1203 Kessler Ave. in Schulenburg, Monday-Saturday, from 9-5 p.m.

On Monday, Sept. 14, you will find us in Schulenburg, and it will be our cookie roundup day. We will now have cookie round-ups at all locations, so everyone can help provide a sweet treat for the amazing speakers who join and the bingo callers who make the games special. This day you can bring your baked treats to Schulenburg.

We will have an Asian chicken stir-fry served with rice and egg rolls made by Amanda Kridel and our amazing volunteers. Our members always bring desserts. Please remember you don’t have to bake to provide a sweet treat. Baked goods from the grocery store or the local bakeries work just as well.

The Lunch and Learn program will be presented by the Austin Area on Aging. Robert Slack will join to talk about comfortable social interaction with people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. LaBrittany with True Care Living will join at 12:30 p.m. for bingo.

Tuesday, Sept. 15 finds us in Weimar, and we have a cookie round-up here, too. Blood pressure checks will be provided by True Care Living. Caring, gentle nurses will take your blood pressure while you play your favorite domino game or have coffee with a friend. The home-cooked, delicious, and nutritious meal is served at 11:30 a.m. which includes hamburger steak, a salad and green bean casserole. Arrive by 11 a.m. to get a seat and a drink if you are coming for the meal and program. Destiny Siptak from Turtle Wing Foundation will join to talk about the amazing work they do for children with challenges in our community.

Wednesday, Sept. 16 finds us in two locations, so you can choose to join in Schulenburg or in La Grange at the Randolph Recreation Center.

Get to Schulenburg early to get a seat and a cool beverage because we start serving early to accommodate all of our amazing members. It is also birthday celebration day for anyone born in September from all locations, so please get there by 10:45 a.m. to get your picture taken with the cake. Spaghetti with meatballs is on the menu. Our amazing house salad and the ever-so mouthwatering garlic bread will complete the meal, with desserts from members. We have a new bingo caller, Ginger with Flatonia Health Care, will bring the game.

In La Grange on Sept. 16, it is also cookie round-up day. The lunch menu includes baked Tuscan chicken with garlic bread, our house salad, and desserts. Sara Medack will provide the Lunch and Learn program discussing safe, independent living at home, including fall prevention and healthy habits. She is with Journey of Life Health Care. Sam Gunn from Fayette Savings Bank will call the bingo game starting at 12:15 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 17 is our adventure day. A group of members will travel to Burton to visit the Burton Cotton Gin and then go to the Burton Seafood and Steakhouse for lunch. If you signed up for this adventure and cannot go, please let us know, as we have a waitlist.

We are thankful to Jordan Ranch and Carolyn Moore for providing transportation for this fun day.

Friday, Sept. 18 finds us at Arts Rural Texas for our Artful Friday classes, continuing in September, starring Bonny Karstedt’s rag rug hooking and Jaime Janda’s mixed media class. We will also have a light lunch served after our classes. You must be registered for this class because space is limited.
