Sen. Lois Kolkhorst Speaks at Carmine National Night Out
Carmine’s National Night Out was held Oct. 7 at the Carmine Volunteer Fire Department fire station. It began with the Quade-Werchan American Legion Post 338 conducting a flag retirement ceremony. The RT-C 4-H led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag as part of the ceremony.
Speakers included Texas State Senator 18th District Lois W. Kolkhorst; Fayette County Judge Joe Weber; Precinct 2 Constable Roger Wunderlich; RT-C Superintendent of Schools Brandon Schovajsa; Carmine Mayor Wade Eilers; EMS representative Jennifer Mohr; and Carmine Economic Development Council representative Vickie LaRue.
Over 100 persons were in attendance. Names were drawn for Door Prizes. The group enjoyed hot dogs and desserts sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce. The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department supplied the drinks.
RT-C School News
Round Top-Carmine Jr. High A Team, JV, and varsity host Burton Oct. 19 with the first game at 4 p.m. Jr. High B team will participate in the tournament at Fayetteville on Oct. 21. Varsity team hosts McDade Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. Senior Night will be observed.

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department meeting is Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

Carmine 42 Club
The Carmine 42 Club met Wednesday, Oct. 6 to play eight games of 42 after eating a fantastic lunch special at JW’s Steakhouse.
High scoring partners were Edith Flinn and Linda Mattocks with a score of 1940 and played 3 hands of 84. Second place partners were Donna Mueller and LaVerne Albers with a score of 1737 who played two hands of 84. Additional partners were Carol Naegeli and Jeanette Schoenst who played four hands of 84. Also playing were Myrt Meinkowsky and Marlene Waak who played one hand of 84.
All players enjoyed the exciting games and their challenges. These domino players look forward to the next game day in November. December will be a Christmas Party for this group on the first Wednesday at the Waak home.
MLLC Women of the ELCA
The MLLC Women of the ELCA are collecting Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief during the month of October. A kit includes a bath towel 52x27 inches or smaller; two bath size bars of soap; an adult toothbrush; a sturdy comb; and a metal nail clipper.
Men in Mission
Men in Mission of Martin Luther Lutheran Church are collecting items for Christmas Boxes for the Port of Houston Seafarers. They may be brought to the church office until Nov. 22, when they will be packed at 6 p.m. Items include address books, fabric band-aids, baseball caps, 2022 calendars, comb, dental floss, antiperspirant/deodorant, disposable razors, flashlight and batteries, small packs Kleenex, lip balm, lotion, nail clippers, Gold Bond cream, Gold Bond powder, individual servings of hot chocolate, needles and thread, Q-tips, shaving cream, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, gum and hard candy, key chains, pocket-sized notebooks, mechanical pencils, pens, playing cards, individual microwave popcorn packages, socks, Sudoku books, Texas souvenirs, T-shirts, SUB flash drives and word search books.
Keep in mind that most of the seafarers are men.
MLLC News
Church Council meets Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Confirmation class is Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.
Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, will be at 10 a.m. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.
Men in Mission meet Monday at 6 p.m.
Recycling Trailer
The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.
Attendants are available to help unload dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans.
The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
Visitors’ Center
Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
