Don’t know what to do with the kids at “cousin camp”? Looking for just the right “grunt call”? Last week all those questions were answered at Second Chance Emporium.

First, the “grunt call.” Ten-year-old Clayton Thomas of Columbus is a hunter. He was wearing camo boots and shirt when he came in the nonprofit second-hand store last week. And then to add to his outfit, Clayton found a wooden “grunt call” for sale.

“You use it to get a buck’s attention,” Clayton explained. And then he put the instrument to his lips, puffed his cheeks and released a low grunt that certainly got everyone’s attention.

Kerrie Zuniga of Bastrop had a different notion when she brought her daughter and four youngsters at the family’s yearly “cousins camp.” The kids from McAllen and Round Rock were given the mission of finding a toy to buy, which isn’t a difficult task at the store. Kerrie and her daughter Rebecca Richerson picked up games the rambunctious cousins could play when they got home.

Second Chance has grunt calls and it has dice games – camo shirts and jigsaw puzzles. And all proceeds from the sales go to local nonprofits, such Tejas Health Care and Combined Community Action.
