Second Chance Funds Bladderscan Device for St. Mark’s Medical Center

The Second Chance Emporium has awarded St. Mark’s Medical Center (SMMC) more than $9,000 to purchase a Verathon Bladderscan device. The ultrasound device quickly and accurately measures bladder volume of both adult and pediatric patients to help eliminate unnecessary catheterizations.

“We’re so grateful to the Second Chance Emporium for awarding our hospital with this gift,” said SMMC President and CEO Mark Kimball. “Funding like this helps our not-for-profit, community hospital continue to offer exceptional and safe care to our patients.”

The Second Chance Emporium resale store in La Grange is operated by a coalition of seven local churches representing various denominations, and is predominantly staffed by unpaid volunteers from the community. Donations of gently used household goods, clothing, and furniture are sold at low prices to benefit buyers as well as local charities that apply to the store’s board of directors for funding.

“This new device is already helping to improve our efficiencies and will enhance our patient outcomes,” said SMMC Chief Clinical Officer Tammy Hartfield, RN, MSN. “We are grateful for the generous hearts and hands — and shoppers — of the Second Chance Emporium.”
