Second Chance Emporium Funds New Wheelchairs for St. Mark’s
The Second Chance Emporium has awarded St. Mark’s Medical Center (SMMC) $11,485 to purchase six Staxi wheelchairs.
The chairs are designed to allow safe and easy transport of patients, including handlebar braking for one-handed maneuverability, patient belonging storage, and space-saving multichair nesting when not in use.
“We’re so appreciative of our relationship with the Second Chance Emporium and their recognition of our hospital’s ongoing needs,” said SMMC President and CEO Mark Kimball. “Gifts such as this help our not-for-profit, community hospital continue to offer exceptional and safe care to our patients.”
“These new chairs operate beautifully,” said SMMC Chief Clinical Officer Tammy Hartfield, RN, MSN. “Safe and comfortable patient transport in and out of our facility is critical to the overall experience at St. Mark’s, and we thank the Second Chance Emporium for their support.”
The Second Chance Emporium resale store is operated by a coalition of seven local churches representing various denominations, and is predominantly staffed by unpaid volunteers from the community. Donations of gently used household goods, clothing and furniture are sold at low prices to benefit buyers as well as local charities that apply to the store’s board of directors for funding. The shop is located at 841 S. Reynolds St., in La Grange; donations are accepted Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Shoppers are welcome Friday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
