Schulenburg Stadium Officially Dedicated in Husmann’s Memory

Schulenburg I.S.D. officially dedicated the high school football stadium as David Husmann Memorial Stadium Friday night.

Husmann died on Dec. 18 at age 67. He had recently come out of retirement to coach the Sacred Heart Indians in Hallettsville when he fell ill shortly after football season began last year.

Husmann built a legendary high school football dynasty in Schulenburg during the 1990s. His teams won the state title in 1991 and 1992. Husmann amassed 219 wins during more than 40 years of coaching football.

A fund was set up after his death to collect donations for renaming the stadium and erecting new signage. A new lighted sign went up on the scoreboard last week just in time for the Schulenburg-Flatonia football game. A rededication ceremony too place before the game on Friday.

“David would be so humbled and proud,” said Husmann’s widow Karen Husmann during the dedication ceremony. “He would have never imagined his name up in lights. Thank you so much for the love and support you have given us throughout this all.”
