Schulenburg to Begin Planning for 150th Birthday

The City of Schulenburg will celebrate its 150th birthday in two years.

The Schulenburg City Council appointed Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Dan Mueller to start planning a sesquicentennial celebration for the occasion.

Council made the appointment at a meeting Monday night, June 21.

“I appreciate the Council placing their faith in me,” Mueller said on Tuesday.

The City of Schulenburg was incorporated in 1873. Mueller recalled the town’s centennial celebration in 1973 when he was 17 years old.

“I remember the Schulenburg centennial celebration in 1973 and I have fond memories from that event,” he said. “I would like to see something similar for our sesquicentennial celebration – a well-organized, family-friendly, wholesome celebration that our town deserves.”

Mueller said he plans to form a committee to help organize the event, which will take place sometime in 2023.
