School Board Approves $3 Million Plan for Stadium Turf, Track
Now that the new elementary school is complete, La Grange ISD turns its attention to another big construction project.
On Monday the La Grange ISD Board of Trustees approved the renovation of Leopard Stadium to include the installation of a new turf field and a new eight lane all-weather track. Symmetry Sports Construction was the company chosen for the project. Work will begin in mid-April and is scheduled for substantial completion by August 1. The guaranteed maximum price of $3,048,912 was the approved amount for the project, which will be paid for from current school reserve funds.
“In addition to the field and track, the complex will include concrete work, new sidewalks, new interior fencing, conduits, some paving, and additional dirt work,” said La Grange Superintendent Bill Wagner.
“I’m so glad the school board saw the value it brings to our students and our community,” said La Grange athletic director and head football coach Matt Kates. “It’s a dream come true. I guess we started talking about this back in 2014. It’s the biggest venue in town and now it’s going to be one of the nicest facilities in all of Central Texas, a great thing for our students, a great thing for the community and something we can all be proud of.”
Claycomb Architects and Weaver/Jacobs Construction will oversee the project just as they did for construction of the elementary school and the renovations of the other buildings included in the bond of 2017.
Also, graduation is still planned for the stadium during construction and the companies are aware of that request.
“This is a great asset for the District and will provide up to date facilities for our students in athletic programs of football, track, soccer, and band, in addition to physical education classes. It also is a great addition for our community as a whole,” Wagner said.
