Scenes from Muldoon’s Winter Wonderland

Weather is what all the news this week. Muldoon has been turned into a “winter wonderland” that just won’t go away. Muldoon has been under a blanket of snow for almost a week. Temperatures have not risen out of the 30’s this week. Light ice came down on Saturday night and then about four inches (possibly more) fell on Sunday night into Monday morning. It was a beautiful, but very cold winter wonderland. More ice came on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning leaving things very slick and dangerous to move about. Temperatures did rise a little above freezing, melting a small amount of the snow, but come night it too froze back to ice. On Thursday morning at the time of this writing it has once again begun to snow. Muldoon is looking like a page from a northern travel brochure.

This frigid weather has caused many in the area to have power outages due to limbs breaking, ice on the lines and due to the state wide rolling blackouts. Meanwhile the roads are icy and very dangerous. There have even been some loose cattle in “downtown” Muldoon, who seem to be looking for something to eat and some non frozen water.

Neighbors have been banning together to get things done. Helping one another out, calling and checking on each other, sharing what they can to help each other make it through this unprecedented time. Many have been battling broken pipes; feeding cattle and keeping the ice broke for the animals. As a lifelong resident this is far worse than anything in my memory. At the same time the community seems to have banned together to get through this frozen page in Muldoon history.
