Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets Jan. 3, New Officers Installed
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Jan. 3 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. Thirteen members were in attendance.
Following the standard officer reports and presentation of bills, five thank you notes were read by Vice President Trish Pechal. Karen Janda read a report provided by Spirituality Chair Debbie Greene. Church preparation committee chair Earline Trlicek informed members that flowers had been ordered for the Infant of Prague Mass scheduled for Jan. 16. It was determined that additional candles would not need to be ordered for the celebration of Candlemas Day coming up in February. Finally, she reported that Christmas decorations would be taken down after the feast of the Baptism of our Lord.
Judy Langhamer gave her report on the poinsettias ordered and monies received from various families toward the purchase of the poinsettias. She also thanked those who assisted with the arrangement of the poinsettias on the altar. She reported to members that the flower list had been completed and is ready for distribution. Earline reported that upkeep of vestments continues as needed. She also informed members that a special tapestry had been created and sewn at Father Brian’s request to be used in the sacristy. Finally, those who helped with decorating for the Christmas season were recognized. Nina Blaha, chairperson for the clerical endowment fund gave her report on the December CEF enrollments. Langhamer reported that funeral lunches have not yet resumed as of the meeting date. The Second Chance Emporium report was given by Anna Boyd. Sacred Heart parishioners will be working during the first week in February. Altar Society members as well as any church members who are able are encouraged to volunteer their time to fill the need for this very worthy cause.
The Leadership Commission chair Trish Pechal reported that there were no new members currently pending and that the last meeting report had been provided to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business, Earline gave a report provided by Peggy Sulik on the joint project with the CDA to provide cookies and goodie bags for the sick and homebound individuals in our Parish. Members were encouraged to donate toward the bakeless bake sale fundraiser that is currently on going to raise funds for the Altar Society. Members discussed and ultimately voted to change the requirement of providing a floral cross to the family of deceased members and instead provide a perpetual enrollment for the member. A change to the by-laws of the organization will be voted on at the next meeting to make the change official. A short discussion was held on providing flowers for the table in the narthex. It was clarified that the Altar Society would be the responsible organization to oversee the project, however, all parishioners are invited to participate in the donation of flowers as needed.
Under new business, the meeting date of the Brenham/ La Grange Deanery was announced and members were encouraged to attend. Volunteers were taken for the distribution of candles after weekend Masses to commemorate Candlemas Day. Debbie and Carol will be working on the 2022 Membership List in hopes of having it ready for the February meeting. The date of Jan. 16 was announced as the Infant of Prague Celebration Mass with refreshments to be served in the Parish Center following the Mass.
The last item under new business was the installation of officers for the 2022 year. Installed officers are as follows: President-Karen Janda, Vice President-Trish Pechal, Secretary-Debbie Greene, Assistant Secretary-Susie Kalmus, Treasurer-Anna Boyd, Assistant Treasurer-Carol Svrcek and Parliamentarian-Earline Trlicek.
Having no further business to discuss, the attendance prizes were drawn. The next meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 7 beginning at 5:45 p.m. Members recited the closing prayer and the meeting adjourned.
