Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. Thirteen members were in attendance.
Following the standard officer reports and presentation of bills, one thank you note was read by Vice President Trish Pechal. Members were reminded about the missions taking place in the parish during the month of December. Church preparation committee members finalized altar preparation plans for the Christmas season with Father Brian and poinsettias for church decoration have been ordered. Parish members are again given the opportunity to donate towards the purchase of the poinsettias as has been the custom through the years.
It was reported that upkeep of vestments continues as needed. Nina Blaha, chairperson for the Clerical Endowment Fund gave her report on the November CEF enrollments and informed members that Christmas CEF cards were available upon request. Judy Langhamer reported that funeral lunches have not yet resumed as of the meeting date. The Second Chance Emporium report was given by Anna Boyd. Altar Society members as well as any church members who are able are encouraged to volunteer their time to fill the need for this very worthy cause.
The Leadership Commission chair Trish Pechal reported that one new member, Katie Janda had been approved for membership into the organization. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been provided to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business, Karen thanked Peggy and Ronnie Sulik for setting up the Advent wreath on the Altar and for hanging the various wreaths throughout the church.
Under new business, Peggy Sulik reported on the joint project with the CDA to provide cookies and goodie bags for the sick and homebound individuals in our Parish. A final bill will be provided to the Society once all expenses are completed. The cost will be shared with CDA members as in the past. Christmas gifts were discussed with members voting on gifts for Father Brian, Deacon Mike and discerning Deacon Kyle Janda. The Slate of Officers for the upcoming year was presented by President Janda. They are as follows: President Karen Janda, Vice President Trish Pechal, Secretary Debbie Greene, Assistant Secretary Susie Kalmus, Treasurer Anna Boyd, Assistant Treasurer Carol Svrcek and Parliamentarian Earline Trlicek. Members voted to accept the slate as presented. It was decided to hold a bakeless bake sale in January 2022. A discussion followed about the possibility of raising the annual dues up from $5 per year. A suggestion was made to hold a second bakeless bake sale later in the year to raise additional funds rather than increasing dues. It was decided to table this discussion to a future meeting. A suggestion was also made to consider replacing the purchase of floral cross for deceased members with the purchase of a perpetual enrollment. It was noted that the bylaws would have to be amended since they currently state that a floral cross shall be presented upon the death of a member. Trish Pechal volunteered to look into the matter of changing the bylaws and report back at the next meeting. Members then agreed to help out with cookies after Mass for fellowship as is the plan beginning next year.
Having no further business to discuss, the attendance prizes were drawn. The next meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 3 beginning at 5:45 p.m. Members recited the closing prayer and the meeting adjourned.
