Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Oct. 4, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. Eleven members were in attendance. After the standard officer reports, President Karen Janda read a Prayer for Life for member meditation and reported on dates to remember for the month of October.
Earline Trlicek, co-chair for church preparation informed members that the work sacristy had been thoroughly cleaned and organized and noted changes made to storage of plant stands, seasonal décor and other items.
Judy Langhamer announced that she will begin working on the new flower list for 2022 but expressed concern about the need for more ladies to fill the spots for deceased or aging members. She will continue to order flowers for seasonal and special occasions and Earline Trlicek and Susie Kalmus will be responsible for keeping the flowers in church watered and fresh looking on a weekly basis.
Janda reported that the upkeep of vestments continues as needed by Chair Peggy Sulik. Nina Blaha, chairperson for the Clerical Endowment Fund reported that she will be combining the September and October reports since there were so few Clerical Endowments for September. She will also be taking over the sending of get-well cards as needed for members experiencing illness and asked that members let her know if they are aware of the need for a card being sent.
In the absence of the resolutions Chair, Karen Janda reported that a floral cross had been sent to Angie Winkler’s funeral. There was no report by the Visitation Committee since nursing home visitations are still on hold, however, it was noted that Holy Communion is being distributed to residents at Jefferson Place. Langhamer reported that funeral lunches are still on hold at this time and noted that funds are available to pay the ADCCW dues. The Second Chance Emporium report was given by Anna Boyd and she informed members that Sacred Heart volunteers would be scheduled within the next three weeks and that the store had been thoroughly cleaned by employees and volunteers. Help is always appreciated from anyone who is able.
Trish Pechal reported that one application for new membership was pending as of the meeting and that the last meeting had been published in the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business, it was announced that an audit of the books had been completed by Trish Pechal and Sheila Kielty and that the books were found to be in order. Karen Janda encouraged all members to be sure that their dues were up to date and let everyone know that donations to the Altar Society would be greatly appreciated since the dues are still only $5.
Under new business, the date of the ECCW meeting was announced as Oct. 26 hosted by Fayetteville and held at the St. Johns church hall. She asked members to keep the men in our diocese who are discerning to become deacons in our prayers. Members voted to send a CEF enrollment and inspirational card to our local church member currently discerning to become a deacon. After a short discussion, it was decided to keep the date of the next meeting as Nov. 1, but move the start time up to 5:30 to allow members to attend the Mass at 6:30 for the consecration to St. Joseph.
Having no further business to discuss, the attendance prizes were drawn. Eight prizes were awarded to lucky members. The next meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 1 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
President Karen Janda led the members in a decade of the Rosary and the meeting adjourned.
