Round Top Weathers Storm

The City of Round Top made it through the winter storm better than many areas.

Mayor Mark Massey said residents inside the city did not lose power, and those outside the city limits were seeing rolling blackouts of typically one hour on, followed by two hours off.

The Round Top area is serviced by Bluebonnet Electric.

Several large tree branches on the town square were down and some residents were reporting frozen pipes.

He said the extent of frozen pipes would be fully realized after things thawed over the weekend.

Massey delivered bottle water to some residents who were without water.

The Frenchie Bed and Breakfast had power and water and opened its doors to some residents, who were without power and/or water.

Round Top Mercantile was able to stay open and was very busy as citizens restocked on supplies, Massey said

Several downtown eateries were able to open, which Massey said helped the mood of folks in town.

He said he saw lots of neighbors helping neighbors.

“That was really refreshing to see,” Massey said. “The town itself was really gorgeous with all the ice, like something out of an East Coast postcard, but people are ready for it to be over,” Massey said Friday.
