Carmine Lions Club
The Carmine Lions Club meeting was held at JW’s Steakhouse on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Among the items discussed were the current and upcoming service projects. The club is in the process of providing eyeglasses for three elementary students needing glasses. They are still working with several surrounding community organizations to provide a home for a Ledbetter resident. This is an ongoing project and will be updated as workdays and needs are determined.
Upcoming projects for the next two months are a food drive for AMEN Food Pantry in La Grange and a toy drive for Deputy Santa in Fayette County.
RT-C School News
Congratulations to the Round Top-Carmine varsity girls cross-country team who placed first in district. They are advancing to the Regional Meet, which will be held Oct. 25 in Corpus Christi.
The Jr. High team also placed first in district.
RT-C High School Varsity volleyball team is hosting McDade Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. It will be senior night. They play their last district game at Richards on Oct. 26 also at 5 p.m.
Jr. High B Team will participate at the Fayetteville tournament on Oct. 21. Jr. High A Team will participate at the Fayetteville tournament on Oct. 23.
Carmine Hall Antiques Fair
The Carmine Hall is sponsoring their antiques fair Saturday, Oct. 23 through Wednesday, October 27. Breakfast will be served from 7-10 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Carmine VFD
Carmine Volunteer Fire Department Meeting Night is Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
The burn ban has been lifted for Fayette County. If you plan a controlled burn, contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s office at (979) 968-5856 to give them your name, phone number, and location of burn. In Washington County call the non-emergency number at (979) 277-7373.
Turkey and Dressing Meal
Martin Luther Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA turkey and dressing meal is on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m, drive through only. The meal will be served at the Mission & Ministry Building. The $12 tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the MLLC office, Carmine State Bank, and from Leonita Sanders.
Rebekah Group Meets
The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met October 14, 2021 at 2 p.m. Nine members were present. They were Leonita Sanders, Colette Wunderlich, Carol Carmean, Barbara Jacob, Jocie Braun, Dianna Gerland, Diana Wunderlich, Susan Ray, and Nancy Eilers.
Birthday celebrant Nancy Eilers chose the hymn “Jesus Loves Me.”
The Bible study was a group study with the theme “The Gift of the Spirit: A Divine Wild Goose Chase; Session Two: Breath of God, Reviver and Reformer.”
The business meeting was called to order by Susan Ray, president.
Correspondence included a letter from the Deputy Santa program thanking us for last year’s donation and asking if we would consider donating again this year.
A memorial was given to MLLC in memory of Bernice Mueller.
The group decided to give $500 to each of the following organizations: Hospice Brazos Valley, Fayette County Deputy Santa, Hope Rising, Rainbow Room, and AMEN.
The date of Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. was set for the assembly and packing of Lutheran World Relief Kits and quilts. They will be taken to Zionsville on Saturday, Nov. 6 for the ingathering.
Personal Care kits for LWR are being collected during October.
Plans were finalized for the Thankoffering Service and Turkey & Dressing meal on Nov. 14. The theme will be “A Season of Gratitude.” Colette has planned the service with ladies reading parts and the Praise Team leading songs. The meal will be a drive-thru only from the Mission and Ministry building.
Nancy gave the Offering Meditation.
The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer and the table prayer was sung.
Hostesses were Jocie Braun and Carol Carmean.
Men in Mission Collect Items
Men in Mission of Martin Luther Lutheran Church are collecting items for Christmas Boxes for the Port of Houston Seafarers. They may be brought to the church office until Nov. 22, when they will be packed at 6 p.m.
Items include address books, fabric band-aids, baseball caps, 2022 calendars, comb, dental floss, antiperspirant/deodorant, disposable razors, flashlight and batteries, small packs Kleenex, lip balm, lotion, nail clippers, Gold Bond cream, Gold Bond powder, individual servings of hot chocolate, needles and thread, Q-tips, shaving cream, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, gum and hard candy, key chains, pocket-sized notebooks, mechanical pencils, pens, playing cards, individual microwave popcorn packages, socks, Sudoku books, Texas souvenirs, T-shirts, SUB flash drives, and Word Search books.
Keep in mind that most of the seafarers are men.
MLLC News
Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.
Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing Reformation Sunday, will be at 10 a.m. The service will also be onthe website, mllccarmine. com. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.
Recycling Trailer
The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.
Attendants are available to help unload dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean #1 and #2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans.
The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
Visitors’ Center
Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
