Round Top en Plein Air Festival Sets Stage for Artistic Expression
Studio Texas presents the Round Top en Plein Air Festival 2025, taking place from December 3-5, promises to showcase the vibrant artistry of 16 talented artists as they capture the stunning landscapes and charming scenes of Round Top. This multi-day event invites both locals and visitors to witness the creative process unfold in real-time, allowing onlookers to appreciate the beauty of art made in the moment.
An Impressive Line-Up
The competition will be juried by award-winning plein air and oil painting artist, Suzie Baker, who hails from the Houston area. Baker’s expertise and reputation in the art community bring a significant level of prestige to the festival. Competing artists have been selected from across the country, including participants from as far away as Oregon and as nearby as Shelby, Texas. Most of these selected artists paint as their full-time profession, underscoring the caliber of talent that the festival attracts.
Spotlight on Local Talent
Among the impressive line-up is Stephen Henry from Shelby, the head of the art department at Brenham High School. Henry is not only a talented plein air artist with numerous awards to his name, both locally and nationally, but he also actively inspires the next generation of creatives. He leads the Art Club at Brenham High, an afterschool program that provides high school students opportunities to explore their artistic inclinations.
Recognizing Established Artists
Also featured is Jing Zhao, an internationally recognized artist with signature status in prominent organizations such as the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, and Outdoor Painter Society. Zhao’s work is known for being very expressive and sometimes moody, which resonates deeply with viewers. Last year, her painting of Lu Lu’s Bar was one of the most sought-after pieces during the competition, drawing significant attention when available for sale. Currently residing in the Dallas area, she continues to influence the art community with her emotionally rich and visually captivating work.
Celebration of Creativity
The Round Top en Plein Air Festival is organized by Studio Texas, a 501(c)(3) organization committed to promoting arts in the community. During these three days, artists will set up their easels in various picturesque locations around Round Top, transforming the town into a living gallery.
This unique opportunity allows visitors to engage directly with the artists, gaining insight into their methods, inspirations, and the cultural significance of their art. Local artists are invited to participate in the Open Quick Draw event on December 6, providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills.
