Rohan Meadery Featured In Texas Highways Magazine

In Fayette County nestled between Round Top and La Grange near the Oldenburg community off the highway sits an idyllic farm and meadery that many locals know about and now soon many others will too because Rohan Meadery, located at 6002 FM 2981 in La Grange, was just featured in the March edition of the Texas Highways magazine, the travel magazine of Texas.

The feature titled “The Sweet Spot” tells not only of the charmful atmosphere of the farm, named Blissful Folly, which includes 30 acres for freerange chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, multiple beehives, fruit trees, grapevines, and of course the meadery itself but also the backstory of how it all came together.

Owned by John and Wendy Rohan, Rohan Meadery opened up in 2009. “We built the farm with the hope of creating a community around craft beverages,” said Wendy in the article. And build a community they did. Mead, known as mankind’s oldest fermented beverage and honey used as its main source of fermentation, was the perfect fit for the farm and the Rohans.

John was first inspired by his great-great-grandfather, an immigrant from Moravia who settled in La Grange in the late 1880s and took up homebrewing. Wendy who was a former high school science teacher was educated in the fermentation process.

The Rohans now use wildflower honey from the 20 or so hives on their farm and honey from the Bee Wilde Bee & Honey Farm in Montgomery. Along with the meadery’s 14 styles of mead you can also enjoy food and live music on the weekends.
