Retired Teachers Tour HT Fitness Center

HT Fitness Manager William Calvert instructs Fayette County Retired Teachers’ President, Lisa Slinkard.

In an effort to promote personal contact, and to have more frequent fellowship, the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association Board decided, in 2020, to schedule field trips, to alternate with the regularlyscheduled meetings. On Oct. 14 the group toured the HT Fitness Center in La Grange, and were led through the facility by Manager William Calvert.

Inside the building is the main room, which has the equipment (cardio, weights) for the various parts of the body. All machines have names on them, to describe for what each is used (“prone leg curl, abdominal crunch”, etc). There is a large, open room, for aerobics/Zumba, and a childcare room (supervised) for children, while their parents are in a class/workout. A “Pickleball” court is outside.

Classes include: HT Silver (for improving cardiovascular health and overall strength; is low impact, and great for seniors!); a note for seniors – those enrolled in Silver Sneakers, receive membership FREE for one year, which includes all classes, free child-care, 24/7 access to the building and equipment.

Classes also include: Zumba, Yoga, FIT Camp. FIT Camp is a 4-week program that is designed to make one burn the most amount of calories, and to build strength. One Saturday of every month, there will be a free Fit Camp at 10 a.m. open for the public to try. Also available: New Member Personal Training.

For further information, stop by 2015 Hwy. 71-W (between Tractor Supply and Sutherlands); go to www.htfit.com, or phone (979) 639-5000.

The next regularly-scheduled meeting will be on Monday, Nov. 8, at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange. Social time is 1:30 p.m. business meeting, and silent auction to benefit the Teacher Retirement Foundation, will begin at 2 p.m.
