Saturday, Texas Heroes Day events were held at Monument Hill and Kriesche Brewery State Historic Site. The monument overlooking the Colorado River above La Grange marks the tomb of the men that died during the Dawson Massacre of September 1842 and the ill-fated Mier expedition of November 1842, also known as the “black bean” incident. Saturday’s events included, clockwise from top left: Texian Reenactors doing a gun salute to the fallen, laying of wreaths on the tomb, a speech by Fayette County Justice of the Peace Kyle Hartmann and Color Guard and Taps ceremonies by the Colorado Valley Marine Corps League. The event is held every year in September but was not held last year because of the pandemic. Photos by Bobby Bedient
